Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update Adds Pumpkins And Halloween Costumes-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 9:28 AM

Nintendo has released the new 1.5.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, adding new Halloween- and fall-themed items and mechanics to the game, including pumpkins to grow and new events. Despite releasing earlier this week, most of the update's new additions required the calendar to turn to October 1--and with that day having passed, you can get to planting your own pumpkin patch. It's time to get into the spooky spirit. We just scared ourselves.

Once you've downloaded the update, you'll be able to buy pumpkin seeds from Nook's Cranny during the month of October--and all year round from Leif. Pumpkins can be planted and grown and then harvested to craft pumpkin DIY recipes. These new Spooky Set items will let you kit your town out ahead of Halloween. You should see Leif in your town square if you boot up your game on October 1st. He will be selling both pumpkins and some new shrubs. As he explains, the pumpkins need to be watered and take several days to grow. There are four different color possibilities--orange, yellow, white, and green--so you'll likely want to grow a bunch to ensure you get what you want.

Throughout October, thanks to this update, you'll also be able to purchase Halloween costumes from the Able Sisters and learn some new DIY recipes. There will be special in-game celebrations on the night, and you'll be visited by Jack, a mysterious pumpkin-headed character who you can ply with candy for unique rewards. Jack has been a part of every Animal Crossing game apart from Wild World on the DS.

In some previous Animal Crossing games, you could scare villagers who stayed inside their homes on Halloween--whether this is still the case in New Horizons remains to be seen. Let us know if you've tried it!

You'll also receive two treats in the mail--a Mom's Candle Set from your mom (again, starting October 1), and a Ring-Con from Nintendo (available now), just like the one used for Ring Fit Adventure. Another part of this update is the addition of a dream list in the Dream Suite, so you can revisit the towns you've been to in dreams easily.

Another update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will arrive in November, preparing the game for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

As another month ends, the list of bugs and fish you can catch is about to change, too--make sure that you grab your September fish and bugs before they're gone.
