War is not a game, guns are not toys, and soldiers are real people made of flesh and blood. The America's Army first-person shooter series has now violated each of these truisms, given that action figures bearing the game's name have launched at Toys "R" Us locations across the US.
The toys are the product of Jazwares, a toy manufacturer that has previously created lines based on game properties such as Street Fighter, Mega Man, and Mortal Kombat. Each of the four figures in the series is based on an actual US soldier, with authentic uniforms, weapons, and unit insignias, and includes a trading card summarizing his honors.
Three of the soldiers--Sergeant Tommy Riemen, Sergeant First Class Gerald Wolford, and Staff Sergeant Matthew Zedwick--earned a Silver Star for Gallantry for their work in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The fourth, Major Jason Amerine, won a Bronze Star for Bravery (with the V-device signifying valor) in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
The line is also available directly from Jazwares, although not all of the figures are currently in stock.
