Report: Activision summons DemonWare
Report: Activision summons DemonWare-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 8:30 AM

Gamers may not know what DemonWare does, but chances are they've booted up a game and seen the company's logo plastered in the opening credits. The Dublin, Ireland-based middleware developer specializes in online gaming technology, which has been featured in recent games such as Saints Row, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, and Call of Duty 3.

Several publishers have licensed DemonWare's technology, including Sega, THQ, Ubisoft, Atari, and Activision, but it may only be the latter that uses it in the future.

Irish newspaper Sunday Independent is reporting (registration required) that Activision has acquired DemonWare for an undisclosed sum. The paper says the deal could be worth upward of 15 million euros ($19.7 million).

DemonWare was formed in 2003 by Dylan Collins and Sean Blanchfield and is privately funded by Dublin Seed Capital Fund, Enterprise Ireland, and "several specialist private investors."

Requests for comment from Activision went unanswered as of press time.
