Microsoft has announced that its closed beta for its massively multiplayer space-action game has begun. The game itself won't hit shelves until sometime next spring for gameplay on the MSN Gaming Zone and independent player servers.
Microsoft will only be letting the first 3,000 gamers to register on the game's official site participate in the closed beta. Unlike other space-action titles, like SubSpace, Allegiance occurs in a fully rendered 3D universe, and gamers will be able to customize and pilot more than 36 ships - from scouts to battle cruisers. Instead of just taking the pilot seat and blasting opponents into oblivion, players will assume several positions, including pilot, turret gunner, and base commander.And levels in the game cover a variety of scenarios, from deathmatches to large-scale cooperative play.
Levels in Allegiance is filled with all sorts of astral occurrences, including planets, black holes, asteroids, and the ever-popular wormhole.
