Sep 21, 2024 1:42 AM

And just as quickly as Alec Baldwin signed on to play Thomas Wayne--Batman's father--in the upcoming Joker movie, the Emmy-winning actor has made his exit. According to what Baldwin had to say on Twitter, it seems he doesn't want to be typecast.

"I'm no longer doing that movie," Baldwin told USA Today. "I'm sure there are 25 guys who can play that part." Additionally, he cited scheduling issues as to why he left. However, there are a few other pieces to this that may paint another picture.

Now Playing: Ruby Rose Confirmed As Batwoman In Upcoming DC Arrow-verse Shows - GameSpot Universe News Update

According to a synopsis of Thomas Wayne from The Hollywood Reporter, its sources say Thomas Wayne would be "more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump," and he'd be "a cheesy and tanned businessman."

In 2017, Baldwin won an Emmy for his impersonation of President Trump on Saturday Night Live. And recently, on Twitter, the actor made it apparent that's not the role he wants to play.

Let me state, for the record, that I have NOT been hired to play a role in Todd Phillips’ JOKER as some Donald Trump manque.

  That is not happening.

  Not.

  Happening.

"Let me state, for the record, that I have NOT been hired to play a role in Todd Phillip's JOKER as some Donald Trump manque. That is not happening. Not. Happening," Baldwin tweeted early Wednesday morning not even a full day after the announcement he signed on. While fans were unsure if that meant he wasn't doing a Trump impersonation for his role in the movie or he was out altogether remained a mystery until the USA Today interview set things straight: Baldwin is out.

Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, and Frances Conroy have also signed on to play parts in the upcoming movie, which will star Joaquin Phoenix. The movie will be an origin story for the Clown Prince of Crime, and may come out in 2019. Additionally, there is another Joker movie starring Jared Leto, who played the character in Suicide Squad. The biggest difference between the movies is that Phoenix's film allegedly isn't a part of the DC Cinematic Universe.
