Alan Wake TV Show From Legion Writer In Development
Alan Wake TV Show From Legion Writer In Development-February 2024
Feb 6, 2025 10:49 AM

Although Alan Wake was released in May 2010 for the Xbox 360, the gaming population hasn't forgotten Wake's adventure through idyllic Washington. And while that may have been eight years ago, Alan Wake is reportedly making a return to the big screen--the big TV screen.

According to Variety, a live-action Alan Wake television adaption is in development, with Peter Calloway (Cloak & Dagger, Legion) serving as writer and Sam Lake (Max Payne, Alan Wake) serving as executive producer. Remedy Entertainment--the developers of both Alan Wake and Max Payne--and Contradiction Films--the production company behind video game-to-movie adaptations Mortal Kombat: Legacy and Dead Rising: Watchtower--are allegedly collaborating on the project.

Now Playing: The 13 Biggest TV Shows To Watch - Fall 2018

"Alan Wake was basically a TV series that was put into a game. That was Sam's vision. It was influenced by The Twilight Zone, Secret Window, Hitchcock, Northern Exposure, a lot of U.S. television," Contradiction partner Thomas Harlan said. "We plan to work closely with Sam on [this] show. Sam is a huge part of this. This is his baby."

Harlan noted that this Alan Wake TV adaptation won’t tell a story that follows the game beat-for-beat. However, Lake declined to comment on whether the show's story will be part of the official Alan Wake universe. "In a story like Alan Wake, a story filled with mystery and questions, answering this one would be a spoiler," Lake said.

While there's no release date for the Alan Wake TV show yet, Harlan said he intends to pitch the show in October. Harlan's also confirmed that there's some interest from a number of studios, but he hasn't explicitly named these studios.

Furthermore, it seems Lake isn't ready to talk about an Alan Wake 2. "That would be a dream of mine," he said. "[But] at the moment, there is no news of any further Alan Wake games. As before, we’re exploring these possibilities and hoping to make it happen when the time is right."
