Following the game's digital launch yesterday, one of the first Alan Wake 2 PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S and PC comparison videos has been released.
Remedy's long-awaited Alan Wake sequel was released globally yesterday across PC and consoles. Prior to the game's launch, Remedy revealed the rather demanding PC requirements for the title, and we're really interested in seeing how the game looks and performs on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X as well as the Xbox Series S version. Last week, Remedy's Thomas Puha said that console players shouldn't worry about the game's performance on consoles as the team has been doing a great job optimizing the game. Still, we're kind of curious to see the game run on the Series S, especially since Puha also talked about the technical limitations of Microsoft's entry-level current-gen console some months ago.
Eurogamer's Digital Foundry released a technical analysis of the PS5 version of the game some days ago and going by this analysis, we're looking at a fairly solid version of the game on Sony's console, albeit it lacks some of the visual features that the game offers on PC. But how does the PS5 version compare to the Xbox Series X version of the game, and what about the Series S compared to the other consoles? How do all console versions stack up against the PC version? Well, according to this new comparison video from 'ElAnalistaDebits', the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are practically identical - on some occasions, the Series X version benefits from an additional 1 to 2FPS, but in other scenes, it's the PS5 that offers a more stable framerate close to 60FPS. As such, we can safely say that both console versions offer a solid gameplay experience.
So what about Series S performance and visuals? Well, as it turns out, the game runs and looks surprisingly good on the console, showing solid optimization overall. Visually, the Series S version appears to be close to matching visuals in performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Check out the Alan Wake 2 PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S and PC comparison video below and judge for yourself:
Alan Wake 2 is out now for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Here's what we had to say about the PC version in our launch review:
"With its excellent trippy horror story, memorable characters, amazing atmosphere, and some of the best visuals in gaming to date, Alan Wake II is a game like few others and Remedy Entertainment's best. It took 13 years for the acclaimed writer to come back, but the long wait was worth it. We could have hardly wished for a better sequel, despite the derivative survival horror gameplay holding the experience back a bit."
