Activision released financial results today for its third fiscal quarter, which ended for the company on Dec. 31, 1998. Net revenue for the quarter increased 58 percent from its level for the same period one year ago, from US$122,141,000 to $193,537,000. Net income for the quarter was $16,022,000 (64 cents per share), compared with $9,278,000 (41 cents per share) for the same period in 1997.

　　For the nine-month period ending Dec. 31, Activision's net revenue rose 55 percent, from $201,670,000 in that period during 1997 to $311,599,000 in 1998. For that same period (the first nine months of the company's 1998 fiscal year), Activision reported a net income of $9,983,000 (44 cents per share) compared to a net income of $5,701,000 (25 cents per share) for the same period in fiscal year 1997.

Kotick, Activision cochairman and CEO, said, "Our record revenue and earnings for the quarter can be attributed to the breadth and depth of our holiday PC and console release schedule, which included Tenchu, Asteroids, and Apocalypse, as well as our value-priced PC software titles from Head Games Publishing. We continue to see strong consumer demand for Cabela's Big Game Hunter II for the PC; Activision Classics, Apocalypse, and Tenchu for the PlayStation; and Asteroids for the PC and PlayStation (among other titles). Additionally, our international distribution operations continue to post outstanding gains with a 57 percent increase in revenue compared to a year ago."

　　Kotick pointed to Civilization: Call to Power, Jack Nicklaus: Golden Bear Challenge, Heavy Gear II, and Fighter Squadron as PC titles Activision expects to be heavy hitters in the first months of this year.
