After the big success of the choose your own adventure Black Mirror episode, Bandersnatch, streamer Netflix announced it would produce more interactive episodes. We've already had the Bear Grylls interactive show, and now Netflix has announced its first-ever interactive comedy for the recently ended Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Netflix confirmed that the "special" will star Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and Carol Kane in their roles from the main show. Creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are also working on the episode in which viewers will get to choose what the characters do. Unlike Bandersnatch, however, the stakes will presumably be lower and less dire.

— Kimmy Schmidt (@KimmySchmidt) May 9, 2019
The untitled Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt special will premiere in 2020. "Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes. I think it's a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series," Fey said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premiered in 2015 and ran for four seasons, the most recent of which came out in January this year. It was thought that the comedy might be over at that point, but now we know it's not.
In March this year, Netflix VP Todd Yellin said the company would be "doubling down" on interactive programming like Bandersnatch. "It's a huge hit around the world, and we realized, wow, interactive storytelling is something we want to bet more on," he said, as reported by Variety. At the time, he said the new interactive shows wouldn't necessarily be sci-fi like Bandersnatch, but they could be comedies or romances.
The comedy is coming in the form of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but there haven't been any interactive romantic shows on Netflix yet. Yellin said they could use their interactivity to allow viewers to choose if a person dates another person.
