This morning, 3dfx announced that it had entered into a cross-licensing agreement with processor giant Intel. Although no specific terms of this deal were released, 3dfx did state that all pending lawsuits between it and once-rival 3D chip manufacturer Real 3D, now a part of Intel, have been dropped as part of today's agreement.
"Through its engineering and acquisitions, Intel has built a broad and valuable patent portfolio," said Dr. Alex Leupp, president and CEO of 3dfx. "We believe the combination of our patent breadth and technical expertise, the intellectual property and technology gained through our recent acquisition of GigaPixel, and this agreement further enhances our ability to deliver leading-edge products to market in a timely manner."
3dfx's next video cards, the Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 boards, are scheduled to ship at the end of this month.
