Sony's virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR, has reached a big new sales milestone. The device--which requires a PlayStation 4 console to use--has now sold more than 3 million units worldwide since its launch in October 2016.
In addition to 3 million in sales of the hardware, Sony said it has sold 21.9 million games and "experiences" for the device. "We'd like to thank all our fans for the amazing support, and we're thrilled that so many of our gamers have experienced the magic of VR and stepped into the captivating worlds that electrify our senses," PlayStation said in a statement.

Now Playing: 3 Million PlayStation VRs Sold - GS News Update
As NPD's Mat Piscatella reminds us, 82 million PS4s have been sold worldwide, so that means less than 4 percent of PS4 owners picked up a PlayStation VR headset. Piscatella went on to say that he believe that "immersive VR" on console and PC is "highly likely to stay niche." He added, "Can be a nice little business, but that's about it [in my opinion]."

Immersive VR (the PC and Console stuff) is niche, highly likely to stay niche. Can be a nice little business, but that's about it imo.

Sony also released a list of the Top 10 most-played PlayStation VR games. The VR version of Bethesda's acclaimed RPG Skyrim topped the chart, with PlayStation VR Worlds, Rec Room, Resident Evil 7, and The Playroom VR rounded out the top five. You can see the full list below.
What's more, Sony has also announced the release dates for two upcoming PlayStation VR games. The boxing game Creed: Rise to Glory will launch on September 25, while the sci-fi shooter Evasion will arrive on October 9. There are currently more than 340 PlayStation VG games and experiences available.
