The first trailer for the hotly anticipated black-and-white Netflix movie Malcolm & Marie is out now, showing off John David Washington and Zendaya in the title roles.
Washington, who is the son of Denzel Washington, plays a film director who returns from a movie premiere and is eager for reviews to come in, while Zendaya plays his girlfriend, Marie. "The evening takes a turn as revelations about their relationship surface, testing the couple's love," reads a line from the description. "Smoldering tensions and painful revelations push them toward a romantic reckoning."
Malcolm & Marie was filmed in secret during the COVID-19 pandemic and recently sold to Netflix for $30 million. It's written and directed by Sam Levinson, whose HBO show Euphoria stars Zendaya.
The movie was filmed at the Feldman Architecture's Caterpillar House in compliance with COVID-19 health and safety measures.

According to reports, the idea for the movie came when the Euphoria crew were informed that they needed to shut down production due to the virus. Zendaya is said to have specifically asked Levinson if he could write and direct a movie for her, and it all happened, with Washington joining the cast after his starring roles in BlackKklansman and Tenet.
Malcolm & Marie premieres on Netflix and in select theatres on February 5.
