The first TrackMania was a huge hit... in Europe. The game featured a delightful mix of arcade driving controls and a cool track editor feature. For whatever reason--the under-the-radar nature of the game, its scarcity here in the states, or the simple fact that it wasn't a NASCAR game--the game sold terribly in America. Thankfully, the developers went ahead with a sequel, TrackMania Sunrise, which is scheduled for release in May.
Now, I know what you're thinking: It's a racing game that uses the keyboard as the primary controller. However, the game doesn't need a force feedback wheel or fancy controller to be fun. In fact, TrackMania's zen-simple controls are one of its best aspects. Don't take my word for it, though. Check out the TrackMania Sunrise demo over at DLX and try it out for yourself, then let me know what you think. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
