The next Zelda won't be out before the next week, but seemingly, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom copies are out in the wild and people are already playing it on PC.
Please note that this post could contain spoilers!
Over the weekend, some leaks from the upcoming Zelda sequel popped up on social media after some people got their hands on a copy of the game early. Screenshots and gameplay clips made their way to Reddit, and since then, these leaks have been gathered in a The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Leak Reddit mega-thread. Again, if you want to say away from spoilers, you might be better off staying away from this post.
As most of you will know, the game's prequel, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has become one of the most emulated Nintendo titles on PC, with players applying a multitude of mods to make the game pure eye candy. Of course, Breath of the Wild was released for both the Wii U and Switch and the game is mostly being emulated through the CEMU Wii U emulator. Tears of the Kingdom, however, is a Switch-only game and, as such, can't be emulated through CEMU.
For emulating Switch titles on PC, players use the popular Yuzu and Ryujinx emulators, and from the looks of it, some players already have the Breath of the Wild sequel running on PC. This has become common practice with new Switch games, but it's remarkable how fast players can emulate a yet-to-be-released game. As expected, performance is still far from perfect on PC, but from what we've seen, some players are already playing the game at 60FPS using the Ryujinx emulator.
We've included an embedded link of the player streaming gameplay of the game below. It appears that it's only a matter of time before PC users will be able Tears of the Kingdom the same way they did with Breath of the Wild.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases globally for the Nintendo Switch next week on May 12.
Over the past month, Nintendo has been heavily marketing the game through the limited edition Nintendo Switch OLED bundle alongside a new Switch Pro controller and carry case. In addition, Nintendo released various trailers for the game as well as a (leaked) TV ad. Want to learn more about this highly-anticipated sequel? Check out our 'Everything you need to know' article.
