The upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie is in development, but there is no word yet on the cast. People have suggested that Percy Jackson star Walker Scobell, 14, could play Link--and he has mixed thoughts about that.
Speaking to Variety, Scobell said, "I don't know if I'd be interested in playing Link." However, if the studio came to Scobell and asked, he said he would "definitely consider it, 100%."
Scobell said he played Breath of the Wild but hasn't tried Tears of the Kingdom yet. His father is a big fan of the series. "My dad loves Legend of Zelda. He played the games when he was younger," Scobell said.
There have been many names thrown out there for who could play Link or Zelda in the movie, and much of that appears to be fan casting for now. Euphoria star Hunter Schafer, for example, has been floated by fans as a good candidate to play Zelda. Schafer said of this, "That would be so cool. I love the game, personally. I played it as a kid, and I still play it now."
What we do know about the Zelda movie is that it'll be live-action and that Maze Runner director Wes Ball is directing. He said he wants to bring a Miyazaki-like level of "wonder and whimsy" to the film.
The Legend of Zelda movie is being developed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures, with Marvel's Avi Arad and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto producing. There is no word yet on a release date or any other particulars.
Many are expecting Nintendo to also produce a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which made more than $1 billion at the global box office this year. A sequel has not been announced, however, but we have some ideas.
