Back in February 2016, a few months after the announcement that Assassin's Creed would take a hiatus year (between Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Origins), Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the brand wouldn't necessarily go back to a yearly cycle afterward. That was hailed as good news at the time, as the constant yearly cycle itself was often cited as the main issue that eventually brought down entries like Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate in terms of reception and sales.

　　However, with the reveal that Assassin's Creed Odyssey would launch less than a year after Origins did in 2017, it was more than fair to wonder whether plans had changed inside the company. During an interview with Geoff Keighley at YouTube Live @ E3, Guillemot reassured that's not happening and instead the individual installments are being evaluated on a case by case basis when it comes to the schedule.

　　First, the Assassin's Creed brand is coming back this year because Ubisoft Quebec had been working on some time (three years) and they were ready to come, so they are coming.

　　We are just now considering the brand. It's a different approach than the one we had before, so you'll see it some years but it will not be every year.
