As a sports gaming fan, having the last name "Ekberg" sucks. While it's easy enough to put on the back of jersey when playing in a career mode, I've rarely heard my name in a videogame. The closest I could get in 2K Sports games was, I believe, "Eklund" and I don't think I've gotten anywhere near it in an EA Sports game. A few years ago, the folks at Sony surprised me by having MLB: The Show play-by-play man Matt Vasgersian record my last name for use in the game but, other than that, sports games aren't that Ekberg-friendly.
And I'm not alone; unless you have a relatively common name, or just happened to be share the surname of a famous ball player, your last name has likely been left out of the sports gaming mix too. Well that's about to change, at least in EA Sports' upcoming NCAA Football 2010. According to a post on EA's NCAA Forums, the site is accepting entries of anyone and everyone's last name, which will then be in the mix for possible recording by NCAA announcer Brad Nessler. All you have to do is follow this link, type in your name and the phonetic spelling and you're entered. There's no guarantee that Nessler will record everyone's name who enters but, the way I see it, it's worth a shot.
Ekberg's in. How about you?
