London, England - LucasArts, which has in the past brought you X-Wing and TIE Fighter, has announced the newest game in its acclaimed space simulation line. Once again developed by Lawrence Holland and Totally Games, X-Wing Alliance is a multiship simulator that lets you pilot any number of Star Wars craft, including X-wings, A-wings, B-wings, Y-wings, and Z-95s. In addition, you can finally pilot Corellian transports as well - and not just any Corellian transports, mind you, but the Millenium Falcon itself.

　　Few details are available on X-Wing Alliance, and the build LucasArts brought to ECTS was not functional as of this writing. The company is, however, promising 50 single-player missions and five multiplayer missions.

　　The single-player missions will be broken up over two campaigns, both centred around the Rebel Alliance. The first is centred on the Rebel Alliance's activities shortly after the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. The second campaign will focus on two rival families caught not only in an interpersonal war, but the battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance.

　　New single-player features include the ability to move from sector to sector within a single mission and the ability to have many more craft involved in battles. Like X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance will support four players over the Internet, eight players over a LAN, and two players over a modem or serial connection. The game is tentatively scheduled for release in the first quarter of 1999.
