X-Men Horror Movie New Mutants Finally Gets Creepy Second Trailer-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 6:27 PM

The X-Men movie The New Mutants has become one of the most notoriously troubled productions of recent years. It was originally shot back in 2017 and set for an April 2018 release, but rumors of extensive reshoots and repeated delays have caused some to wonder when we'll actually see it--including the film's own exasperated cast members. But a new trailer has finally arrived, and providing it's not pushed back again, the movie will hit theaters in April.

The new trailer certainly delivers the horror edge that director Josh Boone has spoken about numerous times before. The film stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Blu Hunt (Another Life), Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why), and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as a group of young mutants who are being held in a sinister facility, where lots of weird things are happening. It looks really creepy and very different to last year's X-Men flop Dark Phoenix--which, let's face it, is not a bad thing. Check it out below.

The New Mutants releases on April 3 and also stars Alice Braga (Elysium), Antonio Banderas (Spy Kids), and Happy Anderson (Mindhunter). Boone previously made the hit teen drama The Fault in our Stars and is the co-writer and director of the upcoming TV adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. The first New Mutants trailer was released way back in October 2017.

Boone previously spoke about what would set The New Mutants apart from other superhero movies. He told EW: "We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We're trying to do something very, very different."

Although the failure of Dark Phoenix and last year's Disney/Fox deal suggest that The New Mutants will be the final film in the current X-Men franchise, this might not be the case. Ryan Reynolds recently confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in the works under the Marvel Studios banner, which could potentially merge the wildly confusing X-Men timeline with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
