The latest X-Men movie is off to a great start with $8.2 million made in its opening night in the US, Variety reports. Opening in 3,565 locations on Thursday, its total earnings edged X-Men: Days of Future Past, which debuted with $8.1 million two years ago.

　　Alice Through the Looking Glass shared X-Men: Apocalypse's opening night, but it pulled in a comparatively low $1.5 million. Apocalypse is expected to come out on top this Memorial Day weekend with a US box office launch of $80 million in 4,148 locations.

　　The X-Men movies have a history of dominating Memorial Day weekend. Days of Future Past opened on said weekend in 2014 and made $110.6 million, which was nearly half the total box office of $231.4 million.

　　Apocalypse had already released in 75 markets and garnered an international box office of more than $100 million before the US opening.

　　Fox's other superhero flick, Deadpool, brought in $12.7 million in its Thursday opening night back in February and has gone on to become the highest grossing R-rated movie ever.

　　In related news, Psylocke actor Olivia Munn says she wants to team up with Deadpool in an X-Force movie. She also discussed her stunt training and shooting her big action scene in Apocalypse.
