Apocalypse is pacing ahead of the last film, 2014's Days of Future Past, which made $100 million for its international opening weekend in the same 75 markets.
The top international market for Apocalypse was the United Kingdom ($10.5 million), followed by Mexico ($8.6 million), Brazil ($6.6 million), Russia ($6.5 million), and France ($5.9 million). The movie has yet to open in major international markets such as China and Japan.
Apocalypse comes to US theaters on May 27.
In other news about this weekend's international box office, Sony's Angry Birds movie brought in $55.5 million, bringing its life-to-date international total to $112 million. The animated movie based on Rovio's game is expected to make $37-39 million in the US this weekend, which would bring its global total to $149-151 million.
This is the Angry Birds movie's second weekend internationally, while the film only just opened on Friday, May 20, in the US.
