Nov 15, 2024 8:49 PM

Another tool for your arsenal, Commander. 2K and Firaxis Games just announced that XCOM 2 on PC is now fully playable with a controller.

Along with the controller support, players can also tour their ship using a first-person camera. The XCOM blog lays out the process step by step in order to set the camera where you can walk the interior of the Avenger and have a beer with your comrades.

There are two ways to go about this with involving going into developer debug mode:

The Quick Method: for those that want to get up and running right away.

With XCOM 2 installed, right-click on the game in your Steam library and select properties. Head over to “Set Launch Options” from the “General” tab and type in “-allowconsole” (exclude quotation marks) and hit “Okay.”Installing XCOM 2 Mod Tools: for those that want to dive deeper into the tools and play with a few more developer toys.

To download the XCOM 2 SDK, go on Steam, click on “Library” and go to “Tools.” The XCOM 2 SDK will be listed as “XCOM 2 Development Tools.” Select install from the right-click menu option. (NOTE: 67 GB of free space is required)Choose “Play Game” on the XCOM 2 SDK in Steam and you’ll be in the debug version of the game which allows users to input dev commands.(Optional) You have one more item to grab if you want to finish up the mod tool install. You’ll need to install Modbuddy for XCOM 2, located at: “\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\XCOM 2 SDK\Binaries\RedistThere's more, though. You might remember that some time ago a group of modders announced that they would be working on a co-op mod for XCOM 2; well, it finally works. Tactical Co-Op is now available on Steam Workshop and allows you to play with a friend, though the makers are working to expand the group size to allow 12-player co-op. The mod in question is not compatible with Ironman mode or any missions with turn timer.

XCOM 2 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox One. Make sure to read our PC review for the turn-based strategy game. As an added treat, the second video below can be viewed in 360° or in VR if you have the appropriate headset. It takes you on a tour through the Avenger and ends with you taking a seat on Sky Ranger.
