Xbox’s Phil Spencer Talks Boxing IP, BC, Elite Controller & Just Cause 3-October 2024
Oct 25, 2024 7:24 PM

Microsoft's head of the Xbox gaming division, Phil Spencer, has taken to Twitter to answer some fan questions. The Xbox head talked about an additional Boxing IP, backwards compatibility, availability of the Xbox One Elite controller, and the upcoming Just Cause 3.

Now and then, Spencer finds the time to answer some burning questions from the Xbox community. In Spencer's most recent set of tweets, the Xbox head replied to  a question regarding the availability of the recently released Xbox One elite controller. The controller released some weeks ago, but was quickly sold out. Turns out that Microsoft underestimated the demand for the $ 150 controller. Spencer was asked whether the controller would be available before Christmas again, after which he replied he didn't want to overpromise something. Demand has just exceeded Microsoft's planning, but the company is working hard to get more in stock as we speak.

@NiTr0ian We are working to get more in stock, sorry they've been so hard to find.

@ZeZZeX It's tough as I don't want to overpromise. Demand has just exceeded our planning. If you find one and you want it, pick it up, sorry

The head of Xbox also shared his thoughts on the upcoming Avalance game, Just Cause 3. Spencer expressed that he's not sure if there's a game that is as crazy off the rails as Just Cause 3.

@JoshLuck1995 @justcause @PNF4LYFE Not sure there is a game that's as crazy off the rails as Just Cause 3. Good pre-order.

@JoshLuck1995 @justcause @PNF4LYFE Yep, I like games have started to ship in Dec, nice to help spread out releases. JC3 will be a lot of fun

The game will be a lot of fun according Spencer. He himself will also be playing it, and he adds that he likes how games have started to ship in December as well. According Spencer, releasing a title in December, helps out spreading out releases.

Next up are fighting titles, which are doing pretty well according Spencer. He adds that, for example, UFC is a hot IP right now. A good new Boxing IP would be a nice addition to the fighting genre, but Spencer doesn't seem to know about a new boxing game being developed at the moment.

@MasterBlastUk89 lol, not sure why I read boxing day. Don't know of a boxing game either.

  — Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) November 27, 2015

@MasterBlastUk89 Yea, UFC is a hot IP right now and fighting games are also doing well. But a good boxing game would be a good addition.

Last but not least, the Xbox honcho talks about the recently introduced backwards compatibility feature for Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One. At the moment, around 104 Xbox 360 are playable on the Xbox One, and more are being added.

@MasterBlastUk89 Yea, UFC is a hot IP right now and fighting games are also doing well. But a good boxing game would be a good addition.

New titles will be announced monthly, but Spencer doesn't have a specific date for each month's list. When asked about a roadmap for 2016, Spencer replied that the team doesn't do planning for more than 2-3 months in advance, unless the planning involves a feature that takes longer to build.

@JreedVick7 We actually don't do planning for most more than 2 or 3 months in advance unless it's a feature that takes longer to build.
