Xbox Store For PC Beta Adds Mod Support For Games
Xbox Store For PC Beta Adds Mod Support For Games-December 2024
Dec 22, 2024 3:55 PM

It's been a while since Microsoft first announced its intention to bring modding support to games hosted on the Xbox Store on PC, and the latest beta for the store is finally laying the foundation for that future.

As reported by Windows Central, the Xbox Store on PC has been updated with mod support for at least one title. Into the Breach, the engrossing strategy game by Subset Games, can now have mods activated from its store page on the Xbox Store. The option prompts a message from Microsoft explaining some of the dangers of using mods, but then allows the application to pull additional files from its directory into the game.

Now Playing: Xbox 20/20 Had Some Cool Games But Not The Gameplay We Were Expecting

The Xbox Store doesn't facilitate the mods and their installation just yet, but opening applications to use them is a big step forward for the platform. Alternative storefronts, like Steam, offer quick and easy ways to browse and install additional content, making it as simple as purchasing the games that support them. Microsoft is working towards that same promise, and this new beta shows that it hasn't fallen off their radar.

The Xbox Store beta update comes hot on the heels of a leak for the proposed new Store design for Xbox, which seeks to streamline the process of browsing and purchasing games on console. Microsoft has not official detailed the design, but might do so in the future with additional Xbox Series X updates through its monthly Xbox 20/20 streams.
