Xbox One X Will Natively Support 1440P Displays, Microsoft Confirms-September 2024

1440P (2560x1440) is kind of the stepchild when it comes to current display resolutions. Caught in the middle between the dominant FullHD (1920x1080, or 1080P) and 4K (3840x2160, or 2160P) resolutions, 1440P is only popular among PC gamers who can enjoy incredibly high refresh rate with the latest panels.

However, there's a fair number of gamers using monitors to play on consoles. There's good news coming that way, as Microsoft's Kevin Gammill, Partner Group Program Manager at Xbox, confirmed that the Xbox One X will be able to output natively at 1440P via HDMI.

For a game outputting 1440p: On a 4K TV, we uprez to 2160p and output; On a 1080p TV, we supersample to 1080p. Keep those questions coming

I *knew* you were going to ask that, just ran out of space. On X, we will effectively output native over HDMI in this case at 1440p.

That's another advantage over Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, where gamers are forced to stick with a 1080P resolution. It's also a bit ironic, since there are far more games running at a native 2560x1440 resolution on PlayStation 4 Pro than on Xbox One X, so it would be more useful for Sony's console.

The Xbox One X will launch on November 7th for $499. Are you getting one?
