Upcoming space game Elite: Dangerous, itself a Kickstarter success story, is announced only for PC and Mac, but it sure sounds like the game could come to Xbox One and PS4 someday. David Braben, head of developer Frontier Developments, says in a new interview with Eurogamer that the studio "would be stupid not to" at least consider releasing the game for those platforms.
Of course, this comment from Braben is not an official announcement that Elite: Dangerous is coming to consoles. "I've just got to watch out," Braben said with a smile. "I don't want to do something that constitutes an announcement, but we would be stupid not to support other platforms, including console."
Elite: Dangerous is currently in development using the same game engine that Frontier used to make Xbox One launch title Zoo Tycoon. Though it sounds like Elite: Dangerous and consoles are a good match, Braben was clear that the PC version is the focus right now.
"We'd be stupid not to think about it. But the point is, we're very focused on delivering a great PC game," he said. "We will then do the game on Mac and during that time we will be looking at other platforms as well. We're a public company and announcements have to be properly made. But it's obviously something we're bearing in mind."
Elite: Dangerous launches in beta on PC later this month before its full release later this year. The Mac version will follow, and the potential console version would come last. For more on Elite: Dangerous, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
