The project, in development at Ontario indie studio Capybara (Super Time Force, Sword & Sworcery), was originally revealed at Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference.
It was originally scheduled to ship in 2014, then delayed to 2015, and now, speaking to GameInformer, the studio has confirmed the new launch target is for 2016.
Nathan Vella, the studio's co-founder, explained: "Below is indeed coming in 2016. Past that I can’t share much, yet. We’ll certainly have a lot more content to show and news to share in the new year."
GameSpot's previous hands-on impressions of the game were largely optimistic. GameSpot alumnus Shaun McInnis wrote: "Having finally gotten over my fear of brutal games, I was able to go into this demo with open eyes and was rewarded immensely for it."
Below is a timed Xbox One console exclusive that will also launch on PC.
