Though the Chateau Marmot is where Hollywood's elite goes to see and be seen, some younger industry players are cutting deals in a more virtual venue. In a recent article in Variety, correspondent Ben Fritz claims the Xbox Live Gamertag is quickly becoming the calling card of choice for twenty- and thirtysomething "industryites" looking for common ground to help seal an impending deal.
"In an incestuous industry town like Hollywood, most people's social circles primarily involve people in the biz; so tagging somebody with a grenade at night can make it easier to give them a call about a project the next day," Fritz wrote in the on entertainment-industry daily. He also explains the recent Gears of War screenplay deal (a script of which recently surfaced) as curb-stomping kismet, since the film's scribe was brought on board specifically because of his interactions with New Line Cinema execs in the game.
