Xbox E3 2019: George R.R. Martin And From Software Collaboration, Elden Ring, Officially Confirmed-January 2024
Jan 7, 2025 1:02 PM

At first, it was just a rumor. Then, it was teased in a massive Bandai Namco leak. Now, the game that From Software has been developing in collaboration with Game Of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has been officially revealed at E3 2019. As rumored, the announcement occurred during Microsoft's Xbox press conference--the first of many E3 presentations scheduled to air over the next week. As the leak suggested, the game is called Elden Ring, and you can watch a full Elden Ring trailer.

Elden Ring sees you travel throughout a massive open world, exploring multiple kingdoms that are each ruled by a powerful entity. Defeating said rulers gifts you with their power. The pre-rendered trailer shown at E3 doesn't reveal much else--other than the fact there are lots of arms--but it establishes the game's bleak and mysterious tone, which is essential to any From Software game.

Now Playing: Elden Ring Reveal Trailer | Microsoft Press Conference E3 2019

Elden Ring is the first of two unannounced games that From Software has been working on for the past few years. The second game remains a mystery. Elden Ring is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC, and is being published by Bandai Namco.

Microsoft has kept its word to go "big" during E3 2019, covering 14 first-party Xbox One titles and several third-party games. We already knew about a few of the games going into the conference, such as Halo Infinite, Gears 5, and Dying Light 2. Others, like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Outer Worlds were only rumored to happen, but we're happy to see that those leaks were true. Of course, it wouldn't be E3 without some announcements for new games as well, and Microsoft has not disappointed. The studio even revealed its next-generation Xbox console, still tentatively titled Project Scarlett.
