Xbox Boss Wants to Revisit Mechassault IP But These Just Appear to Be Personal Wishes At This Point-November 2024
Nov 29, 2024 10:43 PM

Xbox boss Phil Spencer would love to revisit the Mechassault/Mechwarrior IP but pointed out that, at this point, these are merely personal wishes.

That's what the Xbox head said in an interview with IGN Japan at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS 2023), as picked up by Exputer. According to Spencer, there's plenty of what can be done with the franchise, and back in the day, the series was ahead of its time. As such, it would be nice to revisit the series' space. Unfortunately for fans of the Mecha games, Spencer directly pointed out that Xbox currently has no official plans to revisit the franchise. We've included a video containing the interview below. At the 21:05 mark, Spencer talks about the Mechassault/Mechwarrior franchise.

"I always wanted us to go back and revisit MechAssault/MechWarrior space, I think there’s a lot we can do", Microsoft's head of Xbox said. "There’s so much about that whole franchise that, in some way, was ahead of its time, and it would be nice to get to go back and revisit.  Spencer added, "We don’t have a plan today, so it’s not a leak of anything… speaking of leaks. But that would be a nice one."

Released in 2002 for the original Xbox, MechAssault was among one of the first games to support Xbox Live multiplayer. Both the MechAssault and MechWarrior series are set in the BattleTech universe in which players take control of a BattleMech in order to combat other Mechs as well as tanks, infantry, and more.
