Xbox executive Phil Spencer has spoken out to commend PlayStation veteran Jack Tretton, who announced yesterday that he will leave his post as president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America on March 31.
"Jack Tretton has been a strong leader in our industry for many years. Good luck to him whatever he decides to do next," Spencer said on Twitter after the news broke. "I've only only known Jack for about a year but he's always been a true pro with me."
Tretton's forthcoming departure from PlayStation was a mutually agreed upon decision between himself and Sony, but it's unclear what the longtime PlayStation boss will do next. If he stays in the game industry, might he take a job at competitor Microsoft? Not likely, according to Spencer.
"I don't think Jack's next move will be here at Microsoft," Spencer said.
Tretton oversaw every major PlayStation product launch in the company's history, and leaves Sony after nearly two decades with the outfit. His replacement is Shawn Layden, who previously held the position of Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI) VP and COO.
