WWE 2K15 will dip into wrestling's more recent history for its single-player mode, with rivalries between Shawn Michaels and Triple H from 2002-2004 and John Cena and CM Punk from 2011-2013 confirmed for the game's 2K Showcase mode.
2K Showcase will feature 33 matches from the two feuds, and like last year's well-received Road to Wrestlemania mode, will incorporate classic WWE footage, new WWE superstar commentary, and cinematic cut scenes in an attempt to create a "documentary" feel. Playing through the mode in WWE 2K15 will unlock new superstars, ring attire, and more.
WWE 2K15 executive producer Mark Little has confirmed that more rivalries will be released post game launch as DLC, but did not specify what feuds were being considered.
In an interview to promote the game, WWE superstar Shawn Michaels said the inclusion of his famous feud with The Game was "nothing short of pretty cool."
"It was such a feel good moment (his return to the WWE in 2002), and then Triple H turned on me like the rabid dog that he is. The thing that I always enjoyed about that rivalry was that it went for two years. That is hard to come by anymore. There as so much that happened in that two years," Michaels said.
"One of the things I always enjoy about the video games are the fantasy matches, the ones you never got to see but now can come to life. And the one I'm very excited about is Sting. I never got a chance to wrestle him, but that can happen in the game."
Sting was recently announced as one of the playable superstars in WWE 2K15. People who preorder the game will receive not one, but two versions of the famous wrestler. The first will be his iconic black and white face paint look, while the second will be based on his earlier, more colorful days.
WWE 2K15 is being co-developed by Yukes and Visual Concepts, and is coming October 28 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4, before launching in international markets on October 31.
