Bobby Eaton, former NWA tag team champion and 11-time NWA Mid-America Heavyweight Champion has passed away. He was only 62 years old. As part of The Midnight Express along with Stan Lane, Eaton won the NWA United States Tag Team Championship three times, with several tag team accolades along the way. As a solo star, Eaton won both the NWA and the WCW Television Championship once.
The news of his passing was announced by his sister, Debby Eaton Lewis, on Facebook early Thursday morning.
"I never wanted to have to post this, but my Little Brother Beautiful Bobby Eaton passed away last night," she wrote. "When I find out all the details I will post them. Bobby was the kindest, loving person you would ever meet. I loved him so much and am going to miss him, please say a prayer for my niece Taryn. She found him. And she just lost her Mom a little over a month ago."
Considered by those that knew him to be one of the kindest and considerate individuals who brought everybody else's needs before his. In his 1999 book, Have a Nice Day, Mick Foley admired "the Beautiful One" as being one of the most underrated superstars in the business saying that Eaton mostly paid for the rising stars while on the road.
WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin praised Eaton after hearing the news as he retweeted a match from another wrestling account. "Bobby Eaton was one of the absolute best. Midnight Express [with] Jim Cornette were tremendous. Should be in every HOF there is. Tag Team wrestling at its finest."
