[UPDATE] Disney has now shared more details about the Wreck-It Ralph sequel. First, it might not be called Wreck-It Ralph 2; Disney says the movie currently has no title.

　　Additionally, producer Clark Spencer (Zootopia, Bolt), who worked on the first film, is coming back. We also learned that the first movie's stars, John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman are returning for the same roles, Ralph and Vanellope respectively.

　　The first piece of artwork has also been released; it contains references to companies like Google and Amazon because the movie is focused on the internet.

　　"From the moment we started working on the first Wreck-It Ralph, we knew there were so many possibilities with these characters," Moore said in a statement. "This time, Ralph's wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web—as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them—and the actors who voice them—once again."

　　"The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope," Johnston added. "The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless."

　　Additionally, Disney announced that the Disney Crossy Road game is being "wrecked" by Ralph in a special update to celebrate today's announcement. As part of this, starting at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET, Ralph may show up in your game and "wreck" some of the gameplay.

　　Finally, Disney confirmed that the Wreck-It Ralph sequel is taking the place of the animated movie Gigantic, which has shifted to November 21, 2018.

　　As expected, Disney's 2012 animated video game movie Wreck-It Ralph is getting a sequel. The film studio today announced the movie, confirming it will come out on March 9, 2018.

　　Star John C. Reilly appeared during a Facebook Live event today alongside directors Rich Moore (who was behind the original) and Zootopia writer Phil Johnston. He is joining the project as the movie's co-director. Unfortunately, the Facebook Live stream cut out just as Reilly was starting to talk about plot details; maybe this was by design.

　　Wreck-It Ralph follows the titular Ralph--played by Reilly--a villain in a retro Donkey Kong-style arcade game. After decades of being the bad guy, Ralph decides he's fed up with being hated for doing his job and quits to embark on a journey to reveal his true qualities.

　　The movie was a big success. It made close to $50 million during its first weekend, outperforming Walt Disney Animation Studios' previous record-holder, Tangled. The film went on to generate more than $470 million at the global box office against a $165 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.

　　Wreck-It Ralph was generally well-received by critics and also featured the voicework of other actors such as Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer, and Mindy Kaling. The movie was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, but ultimately lost out to Pixar's Brave.

　　Reilly revealed that a Wreck-It Ralph sequel was in the works back in 2015. Director Moore said in 2012 that he was hoping Nintendo's iconic Mario character could be featured in the film. Though it's unclear if that will happen, Nintendo is now more open to movies, so it might be possible.
