WoW Classic Layering Changes Detailed; Realms Operating on Multiple Layers Will Receive an Indication on the Realm Selection Screen-October 2024

Blizzard has detailed some WoW Classic Layering changes, including a change that has set several servers to permanently operate on one layer.

As covered earlier, the use of layering allows Blizzard to manage launch populations. Classic was released back in August of this year and with players having leveled up and spread more evenly around Azeroth, fewer layers are required per realm.

“As we’ve said before, we will have all realms on a single layer before introducing world bosses, and a great deal of progress has been made toward that goal”, Blizzard writes on the official World of Warcraft forums.

“First and foremost, players have leveled up and spread out around the world. This allowed us to accommodate more players per layer, which means fewer layers required per realm. The last time a server in this region had more than three layers was the first week of September, and almost all realms reached two layers shortly after that.”

According to Blizzard, various European and US realms have now reached their end-state of a single layer and these realms have now been set to 1 layer. We’ve included the list of servers operating on 1 layer down below:

  US

  Anathema

  Arcanite Reaper

  Ashkandi

  Azuresong

  Deviate Delight

  Earthfury

  Felstriker

  Heartseeker

  Netherwind

  Old Blanchy

  Remulos

  Smolderweb

  Windseeker

  EU

  Bloodfang

  Dragonfang

  Earthshaker

  Hydraxian Waterlords

  Judgement

  Ten Storms

In addition to this change, Blizzard will be implementing another change to layering in Classic – Realms using more than 1 layer receive an indication on the Realm selection screen and players will see that a realm is “Layered” in the server list. Realms that are permanently operating on 1 layer will only receive the Full/High/Medium/Low markers.

Blizzard notes that they plan to move more Realms to a single layer over time.

WoW Classic, Blizzard’s vanilla server option for World of Warcraft, is available globally now.
