Gaming peripheral maker Steel Series today announced the "Stratus" wireless gaming controller, the first officially supported iOS 7 controller that promises to "forever alter" the mobile gaming landscape. The $100 device was specifically designed for console-style gameplay on iOS devices like the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, as well as Apple TV, the company said.

　　The Stratus controller should feel familiar to those accustomed to console controls, as it features two analog sticks, a D-pad, four action buttons, and four shoulder buttons. All buttons are pressure-sensitive.

　　The controller boasts ten hours of life on a full charge, which takes around two hours, the company said.

　　Up to four controllers can connect to a single device at once. During these multiplayer gaming sessions, a red light featured in the middle of the controller will let you know which player number you are, similar to the setup on consoles.

　　The Stratus controller is quite small, measuring 1.3 inches tall and 2.66 inches wide. It's 4.33 inches long and weights 75 grams, or around 0.165 lbs.

　　iOS 7 introduced standardized game controller support, but it's up to developers to take advantage of the feature, which would enable controllers like the Stratus to theoretically thrive. Steel Series said there are a "growing number" of iOS games that support controllers and expects more will be added in the future.

　　The Stratus is available today to preorder from the Steel Series website.

　　Last week, Wikipad Inc. announced the detachable Gamevice controller for select Android and Windows devices, which aims to bring traditional console controls to mobiles. The company has suggested that a version for iOS devices is in development, but this has not been confirmed yet.
