World War Z’s First Gameplay Trailer Unleashes the Zombie Horde-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 4:37 PM

There’s no shortage of new zombie games on the horizon, but those looking for the most-frantic undead slaying experience possible may want to keep an eye on World War Z. The game is promising hordes over 1000 zombies strong, which you can check out in the first World War Z gameplay trailer, below.

First revealed at The Game Awards 2017, World War Z is a four-player co-op action game with a pretty simple goal – keep the horde at bay. Since this is World War Z, the action will take place in a number of locations across the planet. The new trailer gives us our first look at the game’s snowy Moscow setting (guess the zombies don’t mind the cold) and glimpses of other locations, including a ruined subway station, a museum, and a medical facility of some sort. We also get a hint that the game will feature different enemy types – in addition to standard zombies, we see one wearing a helmet and riot gear.

As revealed in an earlier interview, World War Z will take players to Moscow, New York, Jerusalem, and South Korea, and its zombie hordes will feature procedural behavior that changes from mission to mission…

“The sheer quantity of swarming enemies on the screen and the way they interact by climbing over one another to reach areas that would be safe in other games is unique to World War Z. I would say it truly defines the game. Fighting the swarms that can be either one massive enemy or 1,000 individual ones is exhilarating and addicting.

We tried very hard to replicate the feel of the film in this respect. The major difference is that in the film you would normally flee the enemy, but in the game, you will be forced to fight. You can blow up cars to kill hordes of zombies and destroy certain structures to alter their path. You can also build fences, plant mines and barbed wire, and place turrets in anticipation of incoming horde.”

World War Z is “coming soon” to PC, Xbox One, and PS4. World War Z 2, starring Brad Pitt and directed by David Fincher, is slated to hit movie theaters in 2019.
