World of Warcraft Classic has been announced by Blizzard at BlizzCon 2017.

　　The publisher announced the highly-requested vanilla server option for World of Warcraft during its keynote at the BlizzCon keynote. You can watch the announcement trailer below:

　　WoW: Classic is currently in development at Blizzard but no release schedule was released. “We want to reproduce the game experience that we all enjoyed from the original classic WoW without the launch experience," J. Allen Brack, executive producer on World of Warcraft, said during the BlizzCon 2017 keynote.

　　Following the Classic announcement, PCGamer published a short interview they had with Brack prior to the announcement in which the producer revealed that the team has finally found a way to bring back the vanilla server. "We think we have a way to run the Classic servers on the modern technical infrastructure," Brack said. "The infrastructure is how we spin up instances and continents, how the database works. It’s those core fundamental pieces, and running two MMOs of that size is a daunting problem. But now we think we have a way to have the old WoW version work on the modern infrastructure and feel really good."

　　Last year, Blizzard shut down the Nostalrius legacy World of Warcraft server, and a petition was started to bring the vanilla server back. The petition was personally delivered to Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime by former WoW lead Mark Kern.

　　The petition resulted in a meeting between the Nostalrius team and Blizzard, but things went rather quiet after that.
