Woolfe The Red Hood Diaries Rescued by Rebellion, Physical Backer Rewards First, Second Episode Later
Woolfe The Red Hood Diaries Rescued by Rebellion, Physical Backer Rewards First, Second Episode Later-November 2024

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries, a unique fairy tale themed platformer, hasn't exactly been the shining example of success that can sometimes be seen from Kickstarter projects. The team originally behind it, GRIN, had to file for bankruptcy and subsequently cancelled the rest of the project.Though the first episode was released on Steam, Woolfe faded into the ether, supposedly never to be seen again.

Rebellion is investing in gamers by buying a Woolfe and potentially reviving it.

Physical rewards were the one outstanding issue from the Kickstarter, not to mention the planned second episode and a console version. The future was clear with the bankruptcy announcement, but today something else very unexpected has happened. Rebellion has purchased the IP from GRIN and will be continuing the development, completing the project and even creating the physical rewards, such as posters, an art book, the soundtrack and even a boxed edition, that were promised to those backers who pledged at the appropriate level.

"We're really keen to do the right thing by the Woolfe backers. Just because we’ve joined the Woolfe project much further down the road doesn’t mean we shouldn’t respect the people who made it happen in the first place. If a backer hasn’t received the reward they pledged for, we’re going to do our best to get it to them, even if we have to make it ourselves.”

  - Jason Kingsley, Rebellion’s CEO and Creative Director.

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter and its first volume released on Steam earlier this year. It brought to life the fairytale of Little Red Riding Hood in a dark fantasy universe, beautifully rendered in Unreal Engine 3 across challenging 2.5D puzzle-platforming.

What does the future hold for Woolfe, then? Rebellion says that there might be a future episode planned, and even work on the console versions, though there would be some work porting assets into their own home-grown Asura engine before that actually happens. This also means that the original Woolfe might be a bit difficult for them to support, but that isn't ruled out just yet.
