A new study released by PC Data shows that women outnumber men in online gaming. The study, titled Spotlight on Games: Categories and Hardware, revealed that women make up 50.4 percent of online gamers and that they prefer online trivia and quiz games, gambling, and card games. Men still outnumber women in gaming overall, making up 55 percent of the total market. The study also reveals good news for game companies: More than a third of home Internet users plan to purchase console or PC games during the holiday season.
Some other interesting statistics are included in the study. Men tend to prefer games with war or sports themes, while women prefer board games, card games, and games related to gambling, trivia, and puzzles. The most popular PC game genres overall are strategy (including both real-time and turn-based games) and flight simulation, and 41 percent of gamers spend between one and five hours a week playing games, and 35 percent play more than five hours a week.
