Wolfenstein Studio MachineGames Appears to be Hiring for Wolfenstein 3-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 10:36 AM

A recent job listing at Wolfenstein developer MachineGames seems to suggest that the studio is working on Wolfenstein 3.

As spotted by Tech4gamers, the Bethesda-owned studio is currently hiring for a Senior Animator to help create "new exciting AAA titles". Now, while the job listing doesn't directly confirm that Wolfenstein 3 is in development, the required qualifications do make mention of a "passion for video games and especially for first-person immersive games". In addition, under the preferred skills of a candidate, the ad mentions a "strong familiarity with MachineGames´ titles". Another indication that this job listing is related to Wolfenstein 3 is the preferred skills of experience "animating creatures of quadruped characters", which both are present in other Wolfenstein entries.

The job ad mentions "first-person immersive games" as well as creatures or quadruped charactersNow, while we know that MachineGames is also working on an Indiana Jones game, a first-person Indiana title appears to be unlikely.

Back in May of 2018, MachineGames already hinted at a new Wolfenstein game in the series, teasing that the team might do some new things with it. “[Wolfenstein III would] play with the format a bit", MachineGames designer Andreas Öjerfors said in an interview. "Not because it's necessary but because we would like to do something different. [The New Colossus] is now our third Wolfenstein game [following The New Order and the Old Blood expansion]. If we would continue down that route [Wolfenstein 3] we would play with the format a bit, do something that would interest us."

Some months later, in September of 2018, Bethesda's Pete Hines said that Wolfenstein 3 is absolutely in the pipeline. "Absolutely we’re making a Wolfenstein III”, Hines said when asked whether there will be a new Wolfenstein. “They said on stage that they’re taking a break from the larger story to do this thing. But we all have to see how that ends.”

As always, we will keep you updated as soon as more information about a possible Wolfenstein 3 comes in. What would you like to see in a sequel? Hit the comments below.

Here's what we wrote about 2017's Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus in our launch review.

"Wolfenstein: The New Colossus subverts the old-school shooter tradition by featuring an incredible cast of characters with varied personalities in a world that makes you want to explore more and more of the society it features", Chris Wray wrote. "The gameplay is very engaging, though can sometimes outstay its welcome at parts with a mixture of levels that range from the extremely interesting to dull and repetitive. Whatever its flaws, Wolfenstein is a great game that's well worth playing and will keep you coming back for more as you purge the US of Nazis."
