With the upcoming release of Wolfenstein: Youngblood now only two months and a half away, the developers at MachineGames have started to be featured in interviews and the like. Two days ago we covered their comments on Wolfenstein: Youngblood having been influenced by Dishonored games in level design (which is not that surprising, given how Arkane Studios is co-developing the title) and now, plenty of new tidbits were provided in a Reddit AMA session hosted a few hours ago.
The folks at MachineGames have previously stated they devised Wolfenstein as a trilogy (not counting spin-offs like Old Blood and Youngblood), which means they'll likely work on the third main chapter next. However, a fan asked if they'd be up to try and make a new Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory multiplayer game and Game Director Jeff Gustafsson replied enthusiastically at the idea.
Of course, we are huge fans of Enemy Territory and such an opportunity would be super-exciting.
Admittedly, it would be quite the jump to move from a single-player story-focused shooter to a class-based multiplayer only one like Enemy Territory.
There's another franchise from id Software's portfolio they would also love to tackle, though, and that's Quake. Here's what they said:
Jerk Gustaffson (Game Director):
Quake is the reason I got into gaming. Discovering WorldCraft and Level Design, making maps for Quake, was one of the best experiences of my life - I even still do it today. Developing a Quake game (a re-imagination of Quake 1) is and will always be on my bucket list, but working with Wolfenstein and getting to work closely with my heroes over at id Software is pretty awesome too.
Axel Torvenius (Art Director):
I can't answer for the team, but I personally could only second what Jerk wrote earlier, Quake would be a killer IP to be part of.
Would you prefer to see a new Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory or a new Quake game after MachineGames is done with this Wolfenstein trilogy?
