Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty – Five Phase Affinities And How To Counter Spells-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 6:25 AM

Wizardry Spells are inherently tied to the elements of the Five Phases. In fact, you need to level up each of the Five Virtues to unlock the most powerful enchantments and be able to use them. Moreover, according to the Five Phases theory, every Phase interacts differently with the remaining ones. As you progress in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, you will face more challenging enemies, which will cast Spells at you and your allies, potentially dealing tons of damage if you don’t stop them.

You can counter them, however, by casting Spells that neutralize them. You need to learn the Five Phase affinities to do that and also how they work. This way, you can use the Spells that better fit your playstyle and that will help you overcome your enemies.

How to counter Spells in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

Many bosses and enemies will use Wizardry Spells against you to exploit your weak spots. However, you can nullify their effects by relying on the Five Phases affinities. Ensure you equip Spells tied to different Virtues so you’ll have better chances of having the most appropriate enchantment for almost every situation. You can set up to four Wizardry Spells at a time, so one category will be automatically excluded.

However, if you can’t get through a specific area in the game, you can always set different Spells in the Battle Flag menu to effectively counter your enemies’ magical attacks. If you are fighting against a boss, take time to learn their moves, as they will probably also enchant their weapons. The Five Phases affinities in the game are listed below.

Wood counters Earth.Earth counters Water.Water counters Fire.Fire counters Metal.Metal counters Wood.If you remember this scheme when fighting against enemies that can cast Spells, you will have higher chances of effectively countering their magical attacks. Using them at the right time takes practice, but you can always head to the Training area or repeat a certain Battlefield if you feel so.

The Five Phases explained

When you level up in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, you enhance your Virtues by spending the Genuine Qi points you have farmed. This also affects the Wizardry Spells you can cast because each requires a certain Virtue level. Moreover, after completing a specific mission in the game, you unlock the option to reallocate your Virtue points. This comes at no additional cost, and you can respec whenever needed.

You can power up specific skills and abilities to fight against particular enemies or cast Wizardry Spells that would be locked otherwise. The effects tied to leveling up each Virtue are explained below.

Wood Virtue: impacts your health and the amount of Spirit you lose when you get hit by enemies.Fire Virtue: impacts the amount of Spirit you earn when you successfully land an attack and how much Spirit you spend when you use Martial Arts.Earth Virtue: impacts the weight limit tied to your equipment and how much Spirit you earn when you successfully deflect an enemy attack.Metal Virtue: impacts the duration of a high level of Spirit and the amount of Spirit you use when you cast a Wizardry Spell.Water Virtue: impacts how quickly enemies can spot you and how much Spirit you use when deflecting. If you need more help with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, check our beginner’s guide, the best Wizardry Spells to unlock early, and how Morale Rank works.
