The monthly Steam survey is always an interesting source of data when it comes to gamers and their choices. For June 2016, the biggest change can easily be found among the OS with Windows 10 64 bit rising 3.26% compared to last month. Windows 10 64 bit is now by far the most used OS among Steam gamers at 42.94% of the total; the second place still belongs to Windows 7 64 bit, but with the free offer to upgrade from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10s et to expire on July 29 it is likely that Windows 10 will gain a lot more ground in next month's survey.
32.50% of Steam's users own 8GB of system RAM, with a 0.40% increase over the last Steam survey. That's hardly surprising, since many games have a basic requirement of 8GB nowadays. However, when it comes to CPUs the majority of gamers (47.76%) still owns a Dual Core despite a 0.54% increase of Quad Core processors, now at 45.62%.
The VRAM (Video RAM) is similarly low. The majority of the configurations (34.22%) still sports a mere 1GB, while 2GB is stuck at 23.71% and anything above 3GB is reduced at single digit percentages.
The Steam survey also provides data for the brand new VR devices. The HTC VIve dominates with 66%, though again this is far from a surprise given that HTC produced the headset in partnership with Valve.
The consumer version of the Oculus Rift is estimated at 27.75%, while 6.25% of Steam users interested in VR are still using the Oculus Rift DK2 (Development Kit 2).
