Westworld Showrunners Discuss Whether Game of Thrones Crossover Could Happen-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 1:49 PM

Everyone loves a TV crossover, and one of the more intriguing ideas that has been suggested recently is one between Game of Thrones and HBO's new sci-fi/western hit Westworld. Now Westworld's showrunners have spoken about the possibility of this happening.

The idea came about about because the original 1973 film of Westworld also features a Medieval World theme park, which led some fans to think that HBO's fantasy show would be a perfect fit for this. According to Entertainment Weekly, Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin had the same idea too, and mentioned it to showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.

Unfortunately, it seems that the crossover is unlikely to happen. Nolan told EW: "We love George and our daughter's first trip anywhere in the world was out to Santa Fe for a screening of The Prestige [which Nolan co-wrote] at his theater, the Jean Cocteau.

"He's a lovely guy and a stunning writer and it's flattering he would encourage a crossover. We should be so lucky."

However, Joy gave a personal reason why she didn't to go down the crossover route. "I need to be believe that dragons are real," she said. "I want them be a real thing. So as much as I love George, I can't lose that for myself!"

This week it was reported that ratings continue to rise for Westworld. The third episode was up 40 percent on episode 2, with 3.2 million viewers, including streaming sources.

The fourth episode of Westworld arrives this Sunday, October 23. You can watch a teaser for it here.
