Westworld Episode 1 Draws Reported 3.3M Viewers, Teaser for Next Episodes Revealed-January 2024

HBO's new sci-fi/western Westworld is off to a hot start, apparently.

Deadline reports that the show, which is based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name, attracted 3.3 million views on TV and through the HBO go and Now streaming apps. According to Deadline, 2.3 million viewers watched on TV, with the remaining watching through streaming sources.

If true, that would make Westworld's Season 1 debut the most-watched HBO drama series premiere since True Detective in 2013.

Westworld was adapted for TV by the husband-and-wife team of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Jonathan Nolan is the brother of director Christopher Nolan; the brothers wrote the Christopher Nolan-directed movies The Dark Knight and Interstellar. Star Wars director JJ Abrams is a producer on Westworld.

Critics recently posted their reviews for the first four episodes; reviews are mostly positive. There will be 10 episodes in Season 1, airing every Sunday evening at 9 PM on HBO.

In other news, HBO has released a new "In the Weeks Ahead" video that contains footage from upcoming Westworld episodes. If you haven't seen the first episode, maybe don't watch.

Westworld stars Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, and Thandie Newton.
