The gaming world's focus may be on the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo starting next week, but for everyone else on the planet, the next few weeks will be all about the beautiful game. That's right, the ultimate event in world football--the 2010 FIFA World Cup--kicks off in South Africa this week, and we're sure you're just as excited as we are about this huge sporting extravaganza.
For the next few weeks, this feature will be GameSpot's World Cup hub. Here, you'll find brief bios of all 32 finalist teams, and you'll also be able to join in on the official forum for the World Cup on GameSpot. You'll also be able to enter the conversation (or debate) about wins, losses, injustices, great goals, and who you think will take out the top prize.
But most importantly, we here at GameSpot will be activating our flux capacitors and hitting 88 miles per hour to bring you sneak peeks of what the future will possibly hold for the tournament. We'll be uploading videos of simulation matches (using EA's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa) to try to predict the outcomes of key matches, including every finals match from the second round onward! In the first round, we'll be uploading video simulations of all matches involving the USA, England, and Australia. The scenarios will be simple--we'll use default squads, get the game's AI to play the two countries in six minute halves, and upload the results. How many will we get right? Will the game accurately predict the future? And will you agree with the results?
Keep it locked to the GameSpot World Cup feature during the next few weeks, as we'll be regularly uploading new videos of simulated matches for you to view and debate. For now, let's kick things off with a big match: USA vs. England, which is scheduled for play in the tournament on June 12. Will the USA start off its campaign in glory? Or will the English teach the Americans some harsh lessons in football reality? Check out the video below to find out what we think will happen! And if you want to see the full match simulation, head over to our video page for the entire match!
