We Can Be Heroes: Kids Fight Aliens In Full Trailer For Netflix Superhero Movie-December 2024
Dec 31, 2024 9:13 PM

We Can Be Heroes is the latest movie from Robert Rodriguez, the director of movies such as Sin City, The Faculty, and Alita: Battle Angel. Like his hit Spy Kids movies, it's an action adventure film aimed at a younger audience, and it hits Netflix on January 1. The full trailer has been released.

While the first teaser bombarded us with lots of color, noise, and action, this one finds time for a bit of plot too. The world's superheroes--known as Heroics--have been kidnapped by evil robotic aliens, who are threatening to take over the planet. Mankind's only hope lies in the hands of the Heroics' kids, who have inherited their parents' powers. The kids bust out of their training center and set about saving the Earth. Check the trailer out below.

The adult cast of We Can Be Heroes includes Boyd Holbrook (Narcos), Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Baywatch), and Christian Slater (Mr Robot), while the kids are played by YaYa Gosselin,Vivien Lyra Blair, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Akira Akbar, Lyon Daniels, and Nathan Blair. In addition, Taylor Dooley returns as Lavagirl, from Rodriguez's 2005 movie The Adventures of Lavagirl and Sharkboy.

Rodriguez previously explained it was the popularity of his earlier family movies that led him to make We Can Be Heroes for Netflix. "Kids watch those movies over and over because they're action films made for children and families," he said, via Collider. "Netflix came to me because the Spy Kids movies had done just so well on their service. They said 'could you make a series of films that do that?' And I said, 'I'd love to!'

"It was hard to make them for the theater because kids couldn't drive themselves to the theater and watch it a thousand times. Parents would have to take them. With Netflix, they can just sit there. I don't have to sit there and watch Glitter Force with my daughter, she can just click it as many times as she wants. That's why they get such high numbers on those types of films."
