Happy Mario Day! While Nintendo is offering sales for Mario titles, the cast of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie all got together and sang the Mario theme along with Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon.
Chris Pratt, Keegan Michael-Key, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, Anya Taylor-Joy, Fred Armisen, and Jack Black, are joined by Questlove and The Roots to sing Mario's multiple themes. Even Mario creator and video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination animation president Chris Meledandri join in on the fun.
The Super Mario Bros. theme was officially known as the "Ground Theme" or "Overworld Theme" and is just one of six themes composed for the game by Nintendo sound designer Koji Kondo. At the time, Kondo found it to be the most difficult track to compose for it.
After the first Super Mario Bros. game, the theme went on to become the main theme of the Mario franchise and has been a staple in most of its titles. The composition takes influence from the 1984 song "Sister Marian" by T-Square, a Japanese jazz fusion band.
The final trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Movie dropped Thursday and will be heading to theaters on April 5.
