Ahead of its premiere in just under two weeks, Fox has released the first minute of the debut episode of The X-Files' new event series.
The video, which can be viewed at DoYouStillBelieve.com (a play on one of the series' taglines, "I want to believe"), consists of a series of photographs being placed on a table. These are a mixture of new photos and stills from throughout the series, featuring glimpses of memorable monsters like Eugene Tooms and the Flukeman as well as protagonists Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
This series of photos is accompanied by Mulder summarizing the events of the series. Considering how incredibly convoluted the plot became over nine seasons, it's a decent introduction to the series. It establishes how his sister was abducted when he was a child and how he pursued investigations into the paranormal while working at the FBI, as well as how Scully also became invested. It's a decent baseline for someone new coming to the series (or lapsed fans) who could easily be overwhelmed with talk of alien-human hybrids, bounty hunters, the Black Oil, vaccines, bees, and super soldiers.
The X-Files went off the air in 2002, with one middling-at-best movie having been released in 2008. Fox's upcoming event series, which is just six episodes long, will see it return to television with a two-night premiere on Sunday, January 24 and Monday, January 25.
